JAPANESE BAKU WOOD CUT OUT PAINTING #3

This piece was made from 1/8" draftboard using a laser to cut the silhouette and to engrave lines on the surface. Hand painted with gouache and acrylic with a gold leafed backing layer, it  is ready to hang with a wire installed on the back. Many hours and much love went into getting the lines crisp and bright and I hope that this creature brings happiness and warmth to your wall.

The baku is a creature from Japanese folklore who is summoned at night to eat nightmares. They were a fashionable pillow motif during the Edo period in Japan and w this guy will be a great protector for your bedroom. For more on Baku and other Japanese folklore please visit Hyakumonogatari
