MAKING REFLECTIVE MASK EYES

owl mask tutorial

Here is how i make the eyes for my masks!

 Robodogman/Anubot eyes:

2 part clear epoxy, clear round acrylic cabochon and some flashy clear wrapping plastic. You can use nail foil, reflective paper...whatever will look cool behind the clear cab!

Blorp out even amounts of the epoxy!

Slap the mixture on the back of the cabochon. Try not to get it over the edge like i did! Some guy once emailed me to tell me he found my dirty nails in pictures unprofessional. My profession is being an artist who works with her hands. He was kind of an idiot. Don't be that guy.

Place it on your foil!

Now PRESS it down! The pressure should squeeze out the air bubbles.

Let it cure! You might not be able to get all the bubbles out but try your best!

Trim it! I don't adhere to the fabric scissors only rule because I like to live dangerously.

Almost there!

If you back it with black, it helps the iridescent effect flash a bit more! So lets do that.

Add more epoxy!

Mash it onto some black fabric! I put it on a metal table so it would come right off once cured- glue will seep through fabric.

I did a garbage job on this but you get the idea!

Once it's cured, pop it off with a creepy rusty knife.

Trim it up! The fabric backing will allow you to hot glue the eye on a screen or whatever you want!

OWL EYES:

OR you can leave the extra fabric if you want to use it for the Owl mask or a mask with big sockets. You can see in the mask below how the fabric extends across the entire socket and tear ducts near the beak and that is where you see through:

You can find this fabric by searching "stereo speaker cloth" online.

The speaker cloth will significantly darken and obscure your vision so please be careful.

1 3/8" (35mm) clear cabochons that fit the owl masks can be found here

If you want the metallic effect, paint the back of the glass with a metallic acrylic, glass paint or marker paint and epoxy glue onto the fabric once the paint is dry. I like to use Viva Decor precious metals.
